A GENEROUS fundraiser who has been supporting a Worcester children’s hospice since before it was even built raised hundreds of pounds with a bingo night.

Joyce Teale from Malvern held the event at Hanley Swan’s Royal British Legion Club in June, raising an impressive £933.49.

The 71-year-old has been raising money for the hospice in Bath Road before it was even built and said she was pleased by how much had been raised.

“I’ve been helping to fundraise for Acorns for a number of years now and it’s a pleasure to be able to support such a good cause,” she said. “The event was a great success and I was overwhelmed by the support on the night.”

Community fundraising officer at Acorns Gemma Timmis said: “The support from Joyce over the years has been fantastic and we’re very grateful to her for organising the event and helping raise the money.

“It costs almost £9 million every year for Acorns to continue and we rely on donations from the community most of this amount.”

Acorns runs specialist palliative care and support for babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and their families.

The Bath Road hospice opened its doors 10 years ago and has since cared for 465 children and their families. In the past year alone the organisation has supported more than 180 children and 230 families, including those who are bereaved.
