A TRIP to Weston-Super-Mare was welcomed by YSS Worcestershire Young Carers for the last of their seaside trips during the summer programme.

Eight adult young carers were accompanied for the action packed day with keyworkers Sue Eltagouri and Vicky Parker, which included a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit artist Banksy's Dismaland Bemusement Park on the seafront.

After queuing for what seemed like hours, the young adult carers were greeted by rather sullen park staff and frisked by airport style security guards as they went in, much to everyone’s amusement! The young adult carers were then treated to artwork displayed by over 50 artists worldwide including ‘Cinderella’s Castle’, ‘Mini Gulf’ and ‘Water Cannon Creek’. The theme for the amusement park was

to be miserable and the adult young carers had a truly dismal time.

Carer Lauren, 20, said the best part of the day was Dismaland while 17-yea-old Meg added: "The best thing was getting stopped at the start, being frisked by the Dismaland security staff, having selfies with the Dismaland staff, being with young carers and having a laugh."

Following the visit to ‘Dismaland’ the group stopped for a lunch break on the seafront and then visited the pier briefly followed

by some souvenir shopping; stopping for a quick paddle before walking along the beach back to the minibus.

Vicky Parker, YSS Worcestershire Young Carers Keyworker said: “The whole day was just great. The adult young carers and staff were

really lucky to visit Banksy’s masterpiece ‘Dismaland’, having obtained tickets just the day before following several failed attempts. The whole experience was amazing, hilariously funny whilst being thought-provoking. The young carers definitely appreciated the humour and mickey-take of society. Hopefully, memories of this day will stay with them for years to come”.
