IT'S almost time for people to take to the track in an epic fundraising bid to beat cancer.

Cancer Research UK's Relay for Life will take place at the RGS the Grange school in Fernhill Heath on Saturday, September 12.

Each year the event raises thousands of pounds and sees teams take part in a continuous overnight relay around a track.

People can gather to show their support and there will be food, live music and other entertainment to keep spirits up throughout the night.

People whose lives have been touched by cancer are also encouraged to join in with the Candle of Hope ceremony, which sees quiet fall while candles are lit in memory of loved ones.

Lezley Moran, chairman of the Worcester event, said: “Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer. Taking part in Relay For Life is a positive way to be part of your local community and help make a real difference in the fight against the disease."

"The Candle of Hope ceremony is incredibly moving and highlights the real reason everyone joins together for Relay For Life. We believe that united we are stronger than cancer.

"We also invite cancer survivors along to the relay to officially open the first lap for us, and we have live music and dance and lay on a buffet for them. Because that’s what it’s all about, supporting survivors and people living with cancer.”

Bands and groups taking part include Prism, Worcester Ukulele Club, Worcester Concert Brass, Laura Sankey, Worcester School of Dance, Ben Vickers, Lauren Nicole, Steve Maitland as the Buble Tribute Show and Pippa Langhorne and Buddy from Britain's Got Talent.

Last year's event saw eight teams raise more than £30,000 for Cancer Research and saw
