A SHARE of £25,000 could be heading its way to your school - thanks to our big money bonanza.

Worcester News has teamed up with Western Power Distribution (WPD) to offer Cash for Schools, the chance for your school to win a slice of a £25,000 pot.

Readers will have three weeks to nominate the primary or middle school in South Worcestershire they believe most deserves the money.

The school must then put forward a project that it would like to spend the cash on.

A team of judges will select the 30 best projects and you will be able to collect voting coupons printed in the paper to vote for your favourite.

The school with the most votes over a month-long period will take away the top prize of £5,000, while second place receives £3,000 and third and fourth get £1,500 each.

Then, we'll be sharing the rest of the pot between the 26 other shortlisted schools so that as many youngsters as possible across South Worcestershire will benefit from the money.

Peter John, editor of the Worcester News, said: "I was delighted to be asked to run this competition by Western Power.

"The money could make a real difference to our young people and their schools.

"I hope as many of our readers as possible will get involved and make sure their community benefits."

Dave Park-Davies, WPD’s distribution manager for Worcestershire said: “As a major employer in the Midlands we believe we have a responsibility to play a full and active role in the communities we serve.

"We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Worcester News to support the Cash for Schools initiative.

“WPD has a well-established community support programme that provides practical and financial assistance whenever it can, particularly for projects relating to education, safety and the environment.

“We are looking forward to seeing how the cash will make a real difference to schools across the county.”

WPD is the electricity distribution network operator for the Midlands, South Wales and South West.

It delivers electricity to almost eight million customers over a 55,300 square kilometres service area, making it one of largest electricity distribution companies in the UK.

We will be printing a nomination form, like the one on this page, every day until Wednesday, September 30.
