A model student has been rewarded for his selfless dedication to helping others by being awarded the Young Good Citizen Award for Worcestershire.

James Rowberry, aged 16, from Wyre Piddle, was given the award because of the projects he takes on both in school and outside.

The Pershore High School student chairs the school's Eco group and committee and has helped create an eco garden at the school and been an Eco Ambassador for the district.

He's also school librarian and a peer counsellor.

Outside of school, he is a young leader with the cub pack and attends Explorers and Air Cadets.

James, who has a second dan black belt, helps out at his Karate group, volunteers in the Scout shop and helps care for his disabled grandfather.

James will attend an awards evening at police headquarters at Hindlip Hall on Thursday, October 22 where he will receive a certificate from the Chief Constable and the High Sheriffs and a voucher to the value of £100.

The evening will include a light buffet and refreshments, and a short video of James will be shown.

Police officers and police staff, volunteers and community members will also be recognised for their achievement and commitment during the evening.

Pershore High School headteacher Clive Corbett said: "James is now at the start of his fifth year at Pershore High School.

"I am proud that he has been rightly recognised for the tremendous contribution that he makes to the school and the wider community."
