A kitten has travelled more than 800 miles to be with his new family after they found him weak and starving while holidaying in France.

Woody met the Fall-Taylors in Varen Midi-Pyrenees, where he was living in a wood shed at the holiday home they were staying.

They instantly fell in love with each other during the two-week encounter, after 11 year-old Archie first found the little kitten.

Over the course of the holiday Woody would greet them every morning, play with the children throughout the day and lounge by the pool with them all through the night.

The bond that had been formed led to their decision to bring Woody home.

Simon Fall Taylor, a photographer from Norton, said: "When we first found him he was very small and looked weak and as if he was starving. It was clear he did not belong to anyone.

"The children instantly fell in love with him and we fed him and played every day with him.

"We all fell in love with him straight away- he chose us to be his new family. He would play with the children while they were playing table tennis, climb trees and was so lovable around them was really nice.

"After spending so much time with him, we couldn't leave him there. There was no family arriving in the house after us until Christmas so he would have had to fend for himself, and being so small, we weren't sure he'd even survive winter."

Woody arrived on Sunday, September 20, after Mr Fall-Taylor made it his mission to get the cat to England.

He set up a Just Giving fundraising page, which saw people touched by the story donate £380 to Woody's rescue- in total Woody’s migration cost around £1,000.

After a check-up at a veterinary surgery in Toulouse, Woody was sent to a cattery as the family returned home at the end of August.

After three weeks since they last saw each other, and an 822 mile journey, Woody was at his new home.

Mr Fall-Taylor said: "During the time he was in France, we were all missing him and couldn't wait to see him again.

"When we knew he was nearly home, we were waiting for him in the garden. The children were beside themselves when he arrived, we were si excited and pleased to see him again.

"He is settling in really well and looks a lot healthier.

"Woody is even bringing out the youthfulness of our two elder cats, which is great to see.

"We would all like to thank everyone who made kind donations."
