AN eleven-year-old boy went from rockstar to superstar after growing his hair long for two charities which support children battling cancer.

Tom Wakelin, from Northwick Road, Worcester, has now undergone his radical haircut after growing his hair for a year following the death of a 14-year-old family friend.

The Blessed Edwards pupil, whose long locks earned him the nickname rockstar from his friends, is now sporting a cropped hairdo with his hair being donated to Little Princess Trust with £300 raised for Brain Tumour Support.

Tom told his family he wanted to leave his hair to grow following the death of 14-year-old Ben Sambrook who was supported by both charities while battling a brain tumour.

Tom's family hopes he can reach his target of raising £500 now he has had his hair cut by Maria Grainger, a lecturer at the Heart of Worcestershire college.

His mum Amanda said: "Tom thinks his new hair is great and he thinks he now looks much better in hats.

"Getting it cut was a little painful, as it had to be done in lots of small bunches secured by loom bands.

"He's raised over £400 and I feel so proud that after the build up he went through with it.

"He was surrounded by his friends cheering him on and it would be great if anyone else would like to help him reach his target of £500 for Brain Tumour Support.
