POLICE are warning members of the public to take vehicle security seriously this winter.

West Mercia Police has labelled thieves as "opportunists looking for an easy way to steal items of value from unlocked or unattended vehicles" - and is urging people in Worcestershire to take extra care.

The force has outlined that offenders take advantage of darker nights and even target vehicles left to warm up with the keys in the ignition during frosty mornings, making winter a key time to be vigilant.

Officers have issued a number of tips to keep vehicles safe and secure.

Motorists should always lock unattended vehicles, remove sat navs and other valuables, move shopping or other items into the boot out of sight, and fit an alarm or inmobiliser.
