SCHOOLS who have entered our big money Cash for Schools giveaway will soon find out if they have made the shortlist.

We've teamed up with Western Power Distribution (WPD) to run a competition for a slice of a £25,000 pot.

Primary and middle schools in South Worcestershire have been putting forward their projects to win some of the money.

From the entries we have received, 30 schools will now be selected and featured in your Worcester News.

Readers can vote for their favourites to win by sending in the voting tokens which will be printed in the paper every day.

The wishlists submitted by Worcestershire's schools have included some more unusual requests such as the desire to install an arctic cabin and to set up and run a school radio station.

Others had making the best of the outdoors on their minds by putting in improvements to school playgrounds or improving forest school activities.

Mike Wigmore, team manager from Western Power Distribution's office in Worcester, said: "It's great for us to be involved in the local community.

"We enjoy getting out to schools so they understand what we do and who we are.

"It's great that we can help support them by sponsoring this competition."

The 30 schools on the shortlist will be published in the paper on Monday and readers will be asked to send in voting tokens for their favourite projects.

The school with the most votes over a month-long period will take away the top prize of £5,000, while second place receives £3,000 and third and fourth get £1,500 each.

Then, we'll be sharing the rest of the pot between the 26 other shortlisted schools so that as many youngsters as possible across South Worcestershire will benefit from the money.
