A SELF-EMPLOYED mobile car mechanic has been left “devastated” after expensive tools were stolen from his van.

Matthew Logan, 25, of Woodland Close, Drakes Broughton, has lost £4,000 of equipment including a diagnostic computer, ratchet sets and an impact wrench – and now fears for his livelihood.

The thief, or thieves, cut a hole in the rear door to break into the vehicle, which was parked outside the victim’s home, sometime between Friday, October 2, and Tuesday, October 6, to steal the Snap-on branded gear.

Mr Logan, who sold his house to set up his business MJ Logan Motor Services just three months ago, said: “I’m absolutely devastated – whoever did this is scum.

“I’ve put all my money into this venture. If my insurance won’t cover the costs then that’s it – I won’t be able to come back from this.

“The equipment I’ve lost is all so expensive and there’s no chance I’d be able to afford it again.

“It’s been a horrible experience - and I know I won’t get the tools back.”

He added that he has had to fund repairs to the van himself and has fitted a new, sturdy lock – but is facing a financial struggle without his tools.

“It is going to have a massive impact”, said Mr Logan, who repairs cars for customers at a location convenient to them such as their home or place of work.

“Financially all of my money has gone into kitting out the van and I’ve got no money left.

“I can’t carry out my work without the tools so it’s got drastic.

“The offenders seemed pretty professional as I have seven dogs but they didn’t bark. My feeling is the thieves knew what they were doing and got in and out quickly.”

West Mercia Police is appealing for help to trace those responsible.
