At Bethune, the anniversary of Gheluvelt was celebrated and each company held a concert in its billets and a good dinner was provided. Mr T H Griffiths, Honorary Secretary, stated that the total number of cases registered since the commencement of war was 1,420 consisting of 884 wives and 536 mothers and other dependants. The number of children registered was 2,594. Since the fund opened £1,692 13s 7d had been given in temporary grants to wives and dependants.  In the last four weeks on average £25 was disbursed in grants.

To help infant health. Mrs Wilson appealed for a grant for the Infant Health Society to help nursing and expectant mothers. The high prices of food, especially milk, was causing distress among these people. She thought the distress might very properly be regarded as distress arising out of war. The Mayor expressed some reservations as the whether the grant might be considered as misapplied. Mrs Wilson moved that the War Committee grant £40 to enable the Society to provide dinners at certain places for mothers. Mr Baldwyn seconded. Motion carried.

Belgian Refugee Fund. Mrs Ernest Day who presented the report of the fund said that 13 Belgians were being provided for in the hostel – three men, 
six women and four children. One boy was being educated at the Royal Grammar School, thanks to the kindness of the Governors.
