A CAR overturned on the M5 near Worcester causing the motorway to be temporarily closed – but no-one was seriously injured.

One woman received medical treatment at the scene before being taking to Worcestershire Royal Hospital with minor injuries.

The incident took place at about 9.30am on Friday (October 23) on the northbound carriageway near to junction six and involved just one vehicle, which ended up on its side.

Highways England officers were forced to close the motorway while the car, believed to be a people carrier, was removed to the hard shoulder.

Traffic backed up to Gloucester to the dismay of motorists until the congestion slowly eased when the lanes were re-opened.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an ambulance and a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle to the crash scene.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews from Worcester and Droitwich also attended but were not required as no-one was trapped in the overturned car.

The crash took place at 9.28am and by 10.12am the car had been removed to the hard shoulder. Highways England took to Twitter to praise the swift work of its teams.

A tweet was sent from @HighwaysWMIDS at 10.35am stating: “Quick work by our traffic officers.

“The car has been moved to the hard shoulder and all lanes are open.

“Thanks for your patience. Delays clearing.”
