IT is an iconic badge that has been coveted by youngsters for decades.

The Blue Peter badge was launched in 1960s and remains popular as a special award given to fans and viewers of the programme.

Among the latest young people to receive it are two pupils from Cherry Orchard Primary School, Emily Steele and Niamh Chenery.

Emily was given her badge for her design of a new badge with a red background and a blue ship to be given to people for doing a good deed for somebody.

She said: "Now I’ve got a blue one I want to get more...like the silver badge.”

Niamh received hers after she sent in a picture of presenter Lindsey and the programme's dog Iggy.

She said: "I felt amazing when I got it and hope to get some more badges in the future.”

The badge provides the wearer with free entry to some British museums and exhibitions.
