A POLICE commander says bad driving is never an excuse for violence following a brutal and bloody road rage incident in Droitwich.

We have already reported how Karl Williams was left with a bloody nose, a black eye and blurred vision while his terrified five-year-old daughter was showered in broken glass during the incident.

Both Mr Williams and another man, both of whom have now been spoken to by police, pulled over in a layby in Roman Way in Droitwich. Both men had been heading in the direction of Worcester.

According to the version of events provided by Mr Williams, aged 35, the two men had overtaken one another several times before the incident itself took place on Saturday, October 31, between 8.40am and 9.10am.

Mr Williams, aged 35, of Stoke Prior, who works as a driver, claimed he was punched 10 or more times by his 'attacker' whom he branded a 'low life' and a 'coward'.

During the course of the incident the driver's window of the car was shattered by a punch from the other man which led to Mr Williams claiming his daughter had been showered in glass.

He also told the Droitwich News/Worcester News he had struggled to sleep after the incident.

However, Superintendent Kevin Purcell, West Mercia's policing commander for Worcester and Droitwich, said the other man involved had given a different account.

Supt Purcell urged motorists never to leave their vehicles to confront anyone even if bad driving is apparent.

Supt Kevin Purcell said: "We have spoken to both men involved. They give very different accounts of what happened and who was to blame.

"We continue to look for independent witnesses. I am clear that regardless of driving standards if anyone pulls over to continue an argument or escalate the argument then they

clearly take a risk that they will either assault someone, be assaulted or commit a public order offence.

"We should all recognise that on occasions our own and others driving standards fall below the required standard. "This should never be an excuse for overtaking, driving poorly ourselves then pulling over to remonstrate."

He also confirmed that no arrests had yet been made in relation to the incident.

West Mercia Police is still seeking independent witnesses to the incident.
