TWO Worcester City fans have been charged with being drunk and disorderly following trouble at the FA Cup game against Sheffield United Football Club.

Brothers Shaun Smith, 49, of Ash House Avenue, and Kevan Smith, 50, of Orchard Grove, were both charged with being drunk and disorderly.

They were among five men arrested during the match on Saturday, November 7.

Three others were arrested for a number of offences including public order offences and possession of class A drugs.

They were bailed pending further enquiries.

Kevan Smith said today that he and his brother were arrested at 2.15pm as they got off the coach in Sheffield. Neither of them, he said, made it into the ground.

He added that they both denied the charges and intended to plead not guilty.

The arrests happened after “disturbances” inside the stadium prompted United to shut the food and drink kiosks catering for away fans for “safety reasons”.

Worcester’s fans could purchase food and drink, including alcohol, from them before kick-off but they were not reopened at the half-time interval.

Around 2,000 City fans flocked to Bramall Lane for the first-round tie, which the Blue and Whites lost 3-0.

The two men will appear at Sheffield Magistrates Court on Tuesday, December 15.
