AN MP has called for more thought to be put into a move for Tenbury's Post Office.
West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin is worried plans to move the post office to Bowkett's Nisa store in Market Square could effect the town's sorting office.
Mrs Baldwin has written to the Post Office asking for a new location to be found for the sorting office before the relocation.
The proposed move is currently out for consultation and local people are being encouraged to have their say.
However, the effect on the sorting office is not being considered in the consultation process.
Mrs Baldwin said: "Now that the Post Office and Royal Mail are separate trading entities, I have been concerned that the two organisations are not talking to each other to understand the potential wider impact of this proposal.
“Although I entirely understand the reasons for making this change, I don’t want it to be rushed through, leaving the sorting office without premises.
“I have written to the Post Office to ask it to make sure that they aren’t planning a change which may massively impact on Tenbury residents and businesses."
She added: "Of course, at the end of it, we would hope for a Post Office that has longer opening hours and an identical service, but it should not be at the expense of the valued local sorting office.”
