A POSTBOX has been destroyed by fireworks in Malvern.

Simon Lampitt sent in the pictures of the wrecked postbox in Peachfield

Road after he discovered it on Sunday.

Burned mail could be seen, as well as used fireworks.

The door appeared to be blown from the box.

Royal Mail spokesman Val Bodden said: "We can confirm that a postbox in Peachfield Road, Malvern, was damaged due to vandalism last Sunday night.

"Police are investigating the cause of the incident and due to the irreparable damage caused, this postbox has been removed.

"Mail was recovered from the box and processed for onward delivery and an apology letter sent to customers with the small amount of damaged mail.

"If any customer has any concerns about their mail, they should call our customer services team on 03457 740740.

"We would ask customers to use the nearest postbox or Post Office branch for posting letters until the box can be replaced.

"Mindless acts of vandalism of this nature are relatively few, but where they do happen we take them extremely seriously.

"Every item of mail is important to us and we would encourage anyone with information about this incident to contact the police.”
