IF you ever feel like taking a "voyage of discovery into sound and the depths of the human psyche", then Rosebud can take you there.

If you've seen them play live since their formation in May, then you will understand how it's more than just about the music with Rosebud.

Or you may have just been unnerved.

With their faces almost completely obscured by masks, and their tendency to creep eerily close to the audience — and to crawl about their feet — it's hard to forget if you've seen them perform.

Always men of mystery, Rosebud is made up of three men who are well known on the Worcester DIY punk scene, but who have taken a foray in to the world of electronic music.

"We go by the names of DRKMT, Crowlee Regis and Gorille Hurlant. We came together as a unit only recently and the idea for Rosebud came from curiosity. In our other lives we have a long standing history in the underground punk scene, but have never gone this far into electronic music before. We are all fiercely DIY, and the idea is about finding our path musically by learning and doing — not by established knowledge."

In essence Rosebud is glitchy, roughed-up, heavy electronica with elements of dub, tribal rhythms and layers, 'like the continual blooming and dying of a rose', according to the band.

"Some might call it noise, some might call it industrial. It’s all of them, really," Rosebud explain.

"From what we hear the reaction to us has been very positive. Lots of curiosity, excitement and anticipation. There isn't really a similar band or sound locally. The music is designed to either make you move or root you to the spot.

"We’ve also been told it sounds and feels very European, the kind of thing you hear more in the underground noise and electronic scene on the continent. Given our influences, we take this as a big compliment.

"I suppose we are more physical than electronic acts tend to be. This is probably something to do with where we all started from — hardcore punk and noise rock. It’s about the sensory experience. The masks and the visuals are all part of that.

And simply because we like to maintain an air of mystery. "

Rosebud have big ideas about where they want the band to go, spreading wide across different medias — including film, zines, and T-shirts — but they are just finishing the first phase of recording material, which should soon be available on Bandcamp.

If you want to check them out, Rosebud is performing in the Surrey Vaults in Bristol on December 12, at Surprise Attacks Christmas Show at the Firefly in Worcester on December 17 and at the Marr's Bar on April 8 next year.
