A STARBUCKS will open in Worcester tomorrow (Tuesday, November 24) – with coffee lovers able to get their hit of lattes, frappuccinos and flat whites from 6am.

The long-awaited store is located at The Cross close to Worcester Foregate Street railway station – and its arrival has created 15 new jobs for the city.

It will be run by franchisee 1 Oak Ltd, which has promised “a place to get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy Starbucks beverages”.

Bobby Sidhu, director of the firm, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening the new Starbucks here in Worcester.

“The store will be a great place for people to relax during the busy Christmas shopping period and the store partners are excited to welcome new faces.”

Simon Redfern, Starbucks communications director for Europe, added: “We’re delighted to be opening our new store on Tuesday.

“It’s particularly exciting to be opening the first Starbucks in Worcester and we’re all looking forward to becoming part of the local community.”

The store in the former Support the Arts unit will be open from 6am to 7pm on Monday to Saturday and 7am to 7pm on Sundays.

Starbucks’ arrival in Worcester has created a stir on Facebook.

Victoria Mai Potts wrote “finally we get some good coffee” and Dave Guthrie added “about time Worcester came into the 21st century – it’s nice to know that I can get my Starbucks fix more locally now”.

But others were less impressed.

Ann Lloyd commented “I don't use coffee chains if I can help it - I do my best use independents” while several others said they would boycott the store due to the Seattle-based firm’s UK tax policy.
