RESIDENTS in Droitwich are invited to join an action group which campaigns for Fairtrade.

On Monday, November 30, the Droitwich Fair Trade Group will host its annual general meeting (AGM) and is welcoming in members of the public to join them.

Roles have become available on the committee, so interested parties are also invited to apply for the positions at the meeting.

A spokesperson for the group said: "The group so far has managed to achieve official Fairtrade status for Droitwich, encouraged shops and businesses to switch to Fairtrade products and has organised various events and promotions, but are always looking for new ideas and challenges."

The action group was founded in 2007 after a public meeting and with support from Droitwich Town Council and Wychavon District Council.

The team worked to secure its official status, as set out by the Fairtrade Foundation, which involved getting Droitwich schools and businesses to back the principals of Fairtrade, which ensures third world farmers get properly paid for their produce.

The group meets four times a year and is involved in local events in between.

The AGM will be held in the Wesley Room at Droitwich Methodist Church, on Worcester Road, at 7.30pm on Monday, November 30.
