THE halls and corridors of Oldbury Park Primary School have been reverberating to the sounds of hand clapping, foot stomping, finger clicking, dustbin bashing and improvised percussion.

The noise was from a series of workshops with STOMP, a group famous for its use of unusual objects as instruments and the combination of rhythm and movement to provide stunning theatrical performances.

The workshops promoted listening, performance and physical coordination skills as well as developing teamwork opportunities.

The event was jointly funded by the school and the PTA and the workshops were carried out throughout the week for all the children at Oldbury Park.

The week culminated in a grand finale with an interactive performance led by STOMP and involving students and staff.

Headteacher, Sarah Boyce said: “This was absolutely fantastic and it underlines the school’s commitment to music and performance.

"The children and staff had a wonderful time and we have all learnt that simple everyday objects can be used to make unusual and interesting sounds – even dustbins and plumbing supplies.”

The event ran from Wednesday, November 4 to Friday, November 6.
