A GENEROUS businessman is preparing to help feed hundreds of homeless people in Birmingham this Christmas.

Zak Sweeney, who runs The Village Catering Co, at Hanbury, near Droitwich, has pledged to offer up hot meals to people at The Albert Street Project charity on Wednesday, December 16.

He was moved to donate hundreds of pounds from his own fledging business for the charity event, after meeting a volunteer involved with the project.

Mr Sweeney, who lives on Moorgate Road, said: "We are going to buy lots of chips, curry sauce, sausages. We are going to feed as many people as possible.

"Christmas is a lovely time of year. Christmas is a time of giving and good cheer.

"Not everybody is so happy, which took me into the idea of doing this service project. I thought it was really nice and hopefully it will resonate with people that there are other people outside their doors who do not have hot meals.

"It is spreading the love really and making people aware that there are millions of people out there who are really unfortunate less than ten miles from their doors."

The 40-year-old, who previously worked in the electricals business before starting his business 18-months-ago, will drive up to the centre with one of his catering vans and six volunteers, and stay serving food all evening.

Volunteers at the Albert Street Project help people facing homelessness in Birmingham by providing them with food, hot drinks and clothing.

"People love food and I think no matter how fortunate or unfortunate you are you should have the right to tasty, nice, warm food," continued Mr Sweeney, who has two young songs, aged five and three.

In the future he will look to run similar charity projects in the future and will look into raising money to help provide homeless people with hot meals.

"Anybody can end up in that situation, which is another part of the reason why I'm doing it, you just never know what's around the corner," added Mr Sweeney.
