A SILENT vigil against gender violence will take place at Worcester Cathedral on Monday.

The vigil at the crypt between 2.30pm and 4.30pm has been organised by Mothers’ Union Cathedral and City branch, marking 16 days of activism against gender violence.

The 16 days run from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until  December 10 (Human Rights Day).

It is organised by the Mothers’ Union to raise awareness of, and call for an end to, all forms of violence against women and girls.

In particular the MU believes that prevention needs to focus on teaching children and adults about loving and respectful relationships; that there are laws against all forms of violence and abuse and the means to enforce them; that those experiencing violence are supported, and that perpetrators are brought to justice and rehabilitated.

Barbara Davies is one of those organising the event in the Cathedral.

She said: “All are welcome to come along to this event in the Cathedral which will focus around praying for all those affected by gender-specific violence. We hope that it will help to raise awareness of this important issue.”
