A CROWD of festive residents filled St Andrew's Church for a Christmas concert by Droitwich Community Choir.

At Droitwich's Christmas Lights Switch On event on Saturday, guests packed into the church to hear the choir sing carols and festive pop songs.

Also on the bill were the Lighthouse Puppets group, who accompanied the choir for one of the numbers.

Liz Dutton, choir manager, said: "It was really good, we had a really good turn out and it was very enjoyable. I think everybody in the audience was participating.

"We were singing some of the Christmas tunes and we were getting everybody involved.

"People came back afterwards to have wine and mice pies - it was really nice and all the choir enjoyed themselves."

The concert marked the first of many Christmas performances planned by the choir, who are raising money for the MENCAP Droitwich Challengers Gateway Club.

Mrs Dutton added: "It was a nice way to launch the season."

The club is preparing to sing at Droitwich resident Alison Battin's Christmas lights switch on event next Tuesday, December 8 at 7.30pm.

The concert will help Mrs Battin raise funds for the Birmingham Children's Hospital, which saved the life of her great niece Eva Berrey.
