A FOOTBALLING legend has lent his support to a campaign to get a three-year-old from St John's a life-changing operation.

Paul Gascoigne met the Gibbs family on Monday evening and urged everyone to get behind the campaign to raise £60,000 to send Georgie to America for pioneering treatment.

Georgie's mum Clare said she carefully considered the invite to meet the star but said he was kind-hearted and really took the time to speak to the family.

The former England star has hit the headlines after revealing at An Evening With... event that he had snorted 14 lines of cocaine before his infamous bid to help Raoul Moat.

But Mrs Gibbs said it was in Gazza's past and he had been really interested in finding out more about Georgie's operation.

He was happy to film a short video with boxing promoter Ken Purchase from Boxfrog promotions who had organised the meeting.

"It was funny because they were trying to set up the picture, Georgie was trying to position herself.

"He leaned down to help and she said "Oi get off my frame you!"

"She was telling Gazza what to do.

"He chatted to me afterwards about how overwhelmed he was by her independence, strength and determination."

Georgie has spastic diplegic cerebral palsy and needs a selective dorsal rhizotomy to help her walk unaided.
