A BIKER who smoked cannabis before driving his motorcycle has received a 14-month ban.

Callum Mapp, 20, of Woodside, Aston Bank, Knighton-on-Teme, pleaded guilty to drug-driving during a hearing at Worcester Magistrates Court on Friday (November 27).

He was caught with 3.8mcg of Delta-9-THC - the main constituent part of cannabis - in his blood, the legal limit is 2mcg.

The offence took place in Teme Street, Tenbury Wells, on Thursday, September 24.

Adrian Jones, prosecuting, said: "A police officer was on patrol in Tenbury Wells.

"He saw a motorcycle leaving the area and stopped it.

"The officer had received some information that led him to believe the biker might be in possession of drugs.

"Mr Mapp smelt of cannabis and was somewhat slow in verbal responses to questions.

"A small amount of cannabis was seized and he was given a caution for that.

"As a result a blood sample was taken to test the level of drugs in his system."

Waleed Khan, defending, said: "Mr Mapp is a man of previous good character.

"He fully accepts the prosecution's details of the offence and accepts that he had been smoking cannabis.

"It is not the case that he is addicted but he does smoke cannabis now and then.

"He didn't realise he was over the limit nor was he aware that it was offence.

"He has the attitude that I have done wrong, I will plead guilty and want to be punished.

"Due to the offence he is not sure whether he will be able to keep his job as a blacksmith in Bridgnorth.

"He needs his vehicle to get to work and is not sure if travelling on public transport will be feasible."

Magistrate David Shadwell, chairman of the bench, disqualified Mapp from driving for 14 months.

He said: "If you do drive again you are committing a serious offence and you could go to prison."

Mapp was also ordered to pay a £210 fine, £135 court costs, £150 court charges and a £21 victim surcharge.
