STREET performers added a real Christmas atmosphere to Worcester on Saturday (December 19).

A "fantastic" line-up of acts ranging from puppeteers and a rock and roll band to magicians and a brass band entertained crowds of shoppers, as the city centre buzzed with pre-Christmas activity.

Father Christmas, reindeers and the town crier were also present - but the highlight was perhaps the "enchanting" acrobats who performed in a giant snow globe in The Hive.

Worcester News:

The series of free events were put on by Worcester Business Improvement District - an organisation that exists to promote the city.

Adrian Field, head of Worcester BID, said: "The fantastic free line-up of entertainers created a great festive atmosphere.

"There was plenty going on and all of the acts went down an absolute storm - they really brought the magic to Christmas in Worcester.

"People of all ages were enjoying the entertainment and had big smiles on their faces.

Worcester News:

"We've received lots of positive feedback and everyone seems to have had a good time.

"The aim of the event has been to raise the profile of Worcester and to give the city the high quality entertainment it deserves.

Worcester News:

"Hopefully it has encouraged people to stay in the city centre a bit longer today, which can only be good for local businesses."

He added that the snow globe acrobat performances at The Hive were "absolutely stunning", attracting big crowds.

And members of the public appeared to agree.

Worcester News:

Chris Bateman, 29, of Worcester, enjoyed the snow globe show with his two daughters, who were captivated by the giant snow globe, music and dancing of the acrobats.

He said: "Anything like this that engages the community is positive.

"It was a great performance and created a festive atmosphere.

"My daughters love ballet and dancing so they really enjoyed the show."
