A LORRY caught fire earlier this evening between junctions seven and six of the M5 northbound, blocking one lane.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service reported receiving nine calls from members of the public about the incident, which happened at around 7.16pm today (Wednesday, December 30).

Fire crews are currently in attendance tackling the blaze which is thought to have started in the lorry's trailer unit.

A spokesperson for the fire service said they believed the lorry was carrying "lager or beer possibly".

The fire has caused disruption for drivers using the section of motorway, however it is thought the incident will be cleared by around 9.30pm tonight.
