FEARS over night-time parking at one of St John's biggest car parks have been eased, with the move to restrict availability ruled out.

There were worries that Sainsbury's would be introducing security cameras on its car park, in Swanpool Walk, and would also monitor vehicle movements in a bid to prevent residents from using it overnight.

It was also thought the restrictions, which would have affected daytime parking through further reductions had they of been implemented too, would hurt independent traders operating in the suburb as visitors would have less parking options.

However, the supermarket giant has confirmed this is not the case, and parking measures will remain unchanged.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said: "We constantly look for ways to make parking easier and more convenient for customers who use car parks at our stores.

"However, there are no plans to prevent local residents from using the Worcester St John’s car park at night, and terms and conditions for parking during the day will continue to remain exactly the same for customers using the St John’s stores."

St John’s County Councillor, Richard Udall, first raised the fears over the parking issue.
