NATURE: How to enjoy a walk in the wild

A WALK on the wild side of Worcestershire aims to give people of all ages an insight into the wonders of the natural world.

Treks through the countryside and information about volunteering and conservation are at the centre of an awareness campaign being organised by Worcestershire County Council's countryside service.

The council is organising a series of events to celebrate National Wildlife Weeks which begin on Sunday, May 27, and run until Monday, June 18.

The countryside service will host a series of events at its sites as part of the national campaign.

The following events will be held over three weeks: * Volunteering in the Countryside Centre at Worcester Woods, near County Hall, Worcester.

The free one-hour drop-in sessions will be held on Wednesday, June 13, at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm. Information will be available about how to become a volunteer and will include the opportunity to talk to current volunteers. The sessions are suitable for people aged more than 16years-old.

* A biology of woodlands walk will be held on Thursday, June 14, from 1pm to 1.45 pm in Worcester Woods.

This is a free half-a-mile walk around the popular wood adjoining County Hall and is suitable for wheelchair users and people with pushchairs.

* A woodland walk at Ankerdine Common, Knight-wick, near Worcester, will be held on Saturday, June 16, between 10.30am and noon.

The four-mile walk will explore the area and will include steep inclines. Anyone who wants to take part needs to book and there will be a charge.
