A talented musician has released a CD he composed to raise money for charities which are close to his heart.

Titled Woodland Memories, it has been produced by John Power who has written the songs, recorded himself playing piano, then singing and putting it all together.

Mr Power, of Upton Snodsbury, says he will perform in venues by singing live to the CD in a different tone of voice as to what is currently on the music disc, too.

The 85 year-old said: "It was great putting the CD together, and it's really satisfying to see it completed and available for people to buy. This is the first time I've made a CD like this.

"It makes great lounge music and the people who have seen me performing, or heard the CD, have said that it's a nice piece of work so hopefully people buy some copies and that helps the charities."

Mr Power, who has been playing piano for more than 80 years and is a member of Worcester's The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, will donate proceeds to MS Society and a dog shelter in Liverpool.

He has a daughter, Nicola, who suffers with the disease and has adopted a German Shephard called Karla at the shelter.

The title of the CD came from the inspiration of his late friend, Barbara Arnold.

Her and Mr Power would frequently walk through woodland areas of Worcestershire, and sing while they strolled, but she tragically died of cancer.

The father of four and grandfather, and great grandfather, of 19 grandchildren has already performed live along in venues including the church and various pubs.
