ABSEILERS caught the eye of Worcester residents as they carried out maintenance on the Sabrina Bridge.

The Up and Under engineering company sent out a specialist rope team to look at the structure that crosses the River Severn earlier today (Monday).

While they were suspended under the bridge rope access technicians, Tim Gill and Warren Adjeriou, showed no fear as they impressively got to work.

Simon Enderby, Up and Under operations manager, said: "Structures like bridges are regularly inspected to check their condition.

"The team take pictures and look out for rust, loose bolts - it is a bit like an MOT for a bridge.

"The idea is to spot something early before it gets worse, but often nothing is found.

"One of our specialisms is getting to areas machines like cherry pickers can’t reach."

The footbridge, which opened in 1992, is a suspension bridge so bounces a little when walking across.

Sabrina was chosen as its name following a schools competition, and relates to the legend of Sabrina or 'Sabern' that the River Severn is named after.
