A VICAR from Droitwich has been appointed to represent and support ordained women across the Diocese of Worcester.

The Reverend Beverly Jameson, team vicar for Droitwich Spa, Salwarpe and Hindlip with Martin Hussingtree, was chosen to be Dean of Women's Ministry by Dr John Inge, the Bishop of Worcester.

In her new role she will act as an advocate for women members of the clergy, relaying any concerns or issues faced by them to the Bishop and senior staff.

The Rev Jameson said: "I was delighted to be asked to become Dean of Women's Ministry and am honoured to be representing women in the Diocese, whether they are in full-time stipendiary ministry or are self-supporting."

Previously, she has worked for the Central Telford parish and was a Reader at St Mary’s Church in Market Drayton.

"As a Reader I gained a good understanding of trying to maintain a balance between work, life and God and in the secular world I was also involved in equality work," said the Rev Jameson.

She continued: "While I was in Lichfield Diocese I led part of the Pathways to Ministry training. I’m looking forward to finding out what the women of the Diocese would like – where they are, what they're feeling and any support they need.

"I'm also hoping there will be lots of opportunities for fellowship with each other as we network together and learn from one another."

She takes over from Georgina Byrne, who has held the post for the past 11 years.

Dr John Inge, the Bishop of Worcester, said: "Following consultation with female priests in the Diocese, I was delighted to be able to appoint Bev as Dean of Women's Ministry.

"Bev is a very enthusiastic member of the team in Droitwich and I believe that her experience both in Ministry and in the secular world will make her a great advocate for women ministering in the Diocese of Worcester."

The role requires the Rev Jameson to work two days a month, allowing her to continue with her work as team vicar for Droitwich and its surrounding villages.
