A WALL collapsed after being blown down by strong winds near housing association properties in Warndon.

The wall near properties in Cranham Drive crashed to the floor, spreading the bricks, on Monday afternoon.

Fortis Living, the housing association responsible for the area, sent out workmen to clear the bricks, loading them onto a lorry at around 3.30pm.

A Fortis Living spokesman said that the usual process in these situations was to send out a team to deal with the fall immediately, making the area safe by cleaning up the debris.

The spokesman added the housing association then usually aims to completely rebuild the wall within 28 days.

Nationwide, gales from Storm Henry have been causing chaos, particularly in Scotland which has seen gusts of up to 90mph.

Schools were closed, train and ferry services were suspended, while a lorry was blown over in Humberside, coming to a rest on the edge of a bridge.

In some areas the Met Office has issued amber "be prepared" alerts, warning the winds could reach 90mph again, particularly those most exposed.

The Met Office said: "Be prepared for some potentially severe weather, causing transport disruption and difficult driving, some structural damage, dangerous coastal conditions and disruption to power supplies."

Forecasters are predicting wind speeds could reach up speeds of up to 40 to 50mph in Worcestershire throughout this week, although 19mph is likely to be around the average.

There is the chance there will be hail and gusty downpours in some areas, though forecasters expect it is more likely to remain dry with temperatures reaching a high of 12°C on Thursday.
