SAINSBURY'S has announced its new convenience store near Worcester Foregate Street station will open later this month.

Planning permission has been granted by Worcester City Council planners to convert the former Cash Converters store in Foregate Street into a Sainsbury's Local, with work underway to prepare the store for opening at 9am on Monday, February 22.

The opening of the store will give railway passengers a choice of two nearby convenience stores, as a Tesco Express store is already immediately next to the station.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's said the new store is set to create 25 jobs and will be one of the food on the move stores, meaning it will stock foods, sandwiches, a bakery and Costa Coffee on the go.

The firm is also planning to make a link with a local charity, as part of the opening.

The spokesperson said: "In terms of a local charity, the store would like to ask people to email in if they wish to nominate one.

"The charity must be within the local area, and benefit people living locally and be a fully registered charity.

"The store will then assess the nominations and decide upon who they will support throughout the year."
