DROITWICH Spa made it seven wins in their last eight matches and five consecutive victories in the West Midlands Women’s League Division One South.

They enjoyed a comprehensive 6-1 victory over Kenilworth after dominating from the start and taking the lead after just three minutes.

Diane O’Hare opened the scoring with a far-post header at King George’s Playing Fields after April Polden hit the post.

Ellie Gerhold fired in to double the lead following good work by Melissa Curnock, then bagged a third after linking up with strike partner Polden.

She became supplier for Polden on 27 minutes, who was again on target before half-time to give Spa an unassailable 5-0 lead.

Kenilworth scored a consolation goal midway through the second period.

Sarah Parkinson-Mills was judged to have fouled a Kenilworth player in the box and Jones scored the rebound after ‘keeper Beth Roberts saved the penalty.

But substitute Katie Armento added a sixth goal for Droitwich six minutes before the end.

Manager Ian Fry said: “My players were fantastic. Their first-half performance was superb, particularly given the difficult playing conditions.

“They played some wonderful football. The whole squad played beautifully, worked extremely hard and thoroughly deserved their win.”

It was also a big day for captain Lindsey Jones, who was playing her 100th match for the club.

“Lindsey was one of the club’s founder members and has been a wonderful player for our club since we were established in 2011,” added Fry.

“She is a great captain and leader and a wonderful example of total commitment to our club.

“Playing her 100th game for our club – she’s only the second player to reach that milestone – is a great achievement. We are all very proud of her.’

Droitwich play in the league at county rivals Malvern Town on Sunday (2pm).

Meanwhile, leaders Worcester United beat Redditch United 5-2.
