A FORMER Worcester mayor who has been appointed to the city council cabinet has told of his delight.

Councillor Dave Clark, who has joined Worcester City Council's executive cabinet, said he was looking forward to helping improve the reputation of the council in the eyes of the public.

Coun Clark has accepted the role of cabinet member responsible for customer care.

His new role means he will be responsible for the way taxpayers queries are dealt with, as well as how to engage with the public better.

Customers complaints, vo-ter engagement and the way the council is portrayed by the media are his responsibility.

He joins six other councillors on the cabinet who share responsibility for Worcester.

Coun Clark said: "It is a very wide-ranging role and takes in all kinds of things, but as far as the public is concerned the main aim is to make sure they are satisfied with Worcester City Council and find us helpful. Other aspects to the role include personnel issues, IT and looking at how the council is portrayed in the media. It's good stuff."

Coun David Tibbutt, who used to have the post, will now take up the role of cabinet member responsible for urban renaissance.

The only departing member of the cabinet is Martin Clarke, who stepped down as a councillor a fortnight ago.
