PLANS have been discussed as to how to tackle dangerous parking in Leigh Sinton.

The putting up of signs in problem areas and the possibilities of requesting extra enforcement from police and an off-road car park are the three steps the parish council is now looking into, as it attempts to stop vehicles being parked on pavements.

We previously reported how the parish council was considering creating a car park in the village, to prevent vehicles being parked on pavements on its busiest roads and forcing pedestrians to walk in the road to get round the car.

It has also been claimed that with the cars parked on the pedestrian access, on a corner, it lessens visibility making it dangerous for motorists, and there have been a number of near misses as a result.

Chairman of the parish council, John Sharp, confirmed which options are being explored by the authority but said it is a "long process".

The plans were aired at a parish council meeting on January 26.

John Sharp said: "After the meeting we have are now looking into three options in greater detail.

"One is asking police for greater enforcement, the other is putting signs up to inform people of the dangers of parking on pavements and the other is off-road parking.

ā€œIā€™m not prepared to say where the car park could be located yet, though.

"It was another meeting of discussions, and it's good that we have come up with the possibility of signage and that's another angle which could be explored.

"This is a long process and won't happen overnight, but we will continue to explore where we can take action against the problem."

The parking issue is caused by a lack of options for motorists to park their car ā€“ it is at its worse along Sherridge Road and along the A4103 towards Hereford.

Mr Sharp also says there are concerns over proposals to build extra houses in the village, which could lead to the figure of 100 if all planning applications are accepted.

This would most likely mean there are even more cars in the village.
