Madge claims old copies of Worcester News for her grandsons

MADGE Cooper's three sons, Robert, David and Adrian, were all surprised and very pleased when she gave each of them bound editions of the Worcester News and Times and Worcester News for their Christmas presents.

Mrs Cooper, aged 78, said: "They thought they must have cost me a fortune, and they were so surprised and thrilled and looking forward to reading them.

"I had kept them hidden under a cloth on the table which was groaning at the weight, they were so large and heavy."

Karen Thorp, of Ombersley Road, Worcester

April 1959 and 1935

KAREN Thorp wanted the April 1959 edition of the News and Times as it was the month and year in which she was born.

She said: "I come from Hereford and have only lived in Worcester for eight years, but the papers still contained Hereford news, which was interesting.

"There were a couple of murder trials which were quite horrific."

Mrs Thorp also picked up a volume from 1935 which was the year of her father's birth.

Michael Williams, of Warndon Villages, Worcester

June 1970

MICHAEL Williams was really pleased to pick up a bound edition from June 1970, with pictures of himself and his twin, Philip, playing football and basketball for the old Warndon Youth Club.

He said: "The article was a full page all about the youth club, which was sadly knocked down about two years ago.

"I was 18 at the time and one of the original members.

"Philip and I played football and basketball for the club.

"I lived in Ronkswood at the time and before the youth club opened we were just walking around the streets.

"When it opened we had amazing facilities and everyone went there; I think there was even a waiting list to join.

"I wanted to show the article to my children and grandson.

"They absolutely loved it, and my 12 year-old grandson said the picture didn't look like me. Wel, I am 63 now."
