PEOPLE have been inspired to repair, alter and refashion old clothes thanks to a project which celebrates its second anniversary.

Social Sew and Sewers launched on February 15, 2014, and two years on the project has diverted 76kg of textiles from landfill and more then 50 members regularly attend the social sew-ins and clothes swap.

The monthly event, where talented volunteers are on hand to share their advice and skills, was launched by Duckworth Worcestershire Trust, Worcestershire County Council's Waste Prevention Team and Transition Worcester's Waste Group.

Anda Phillips, DWT's volunteer and community co-ordinator, said without the support and enthusiasm from the volunteers, the sessions' success would not be possible.

The next meeting will take place at the Eco-cafe at the Pumphouse Environment Centre, Gheluvelt Park, on Saturday, February 27 from 10am to 1pm.

There are free access to sewing machines, equipment and expert advice.

People can also offer donations to the clothes swap.
