OFFICERS and staff from West Mercia Constabulary attended Birmingham Pride, one of the country's biggest gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and trans festivals, at the weekend.

The annual three-day event was attended by members of the force's Diversity Team, along with officers and police staff in a bid to forge closer links with members of the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans communities.

Staff were on hand to talk to people about the role of West Mercia generally but also specifically within the gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and trans communities and give advice about following a career within the force.

Deb McIntosh, who representing West Mercia at Birmingham Pride, said: "West Mercia Constabulary is committed to delivering the highest quality service to everyone across Herefordshire, Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin and Worcestershire. Our attendance at Birmingham Pride underlines that commitment to the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans communities in our force area.

"Despite the weather we met a large number of people who were keen to find out more about West Mercia Constabulary and who wanted to talk about joining the force either as a community support officer or a police officer.

"As well as staffing the stall, West Mercia representatives wandered about in pairs to mingle with crowds and to talk to more members of the community.

"Birmingham Pride is always an enjoyable day, and even though it was raining everyone still had a good time. We were all really pleased to be at an event where we could get out and about and meet a wide variety of people, and continue to build upon the strong links we have with the lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and trans communities.

"It was a very successful day and we're really looking forward to going again next year."

Any chance of a straight, heterosexual, married, perfectly normal, run of the mill pride event / march through the streets of Birmingham?

Probably not, far too politically non correct for the far lefties on Bham City Council.
The "normal" people just get too foot the council tax bill as ususal.

West Mercia could set up a stall at the Guildhall and remind us tediously normal people what police personnel look like and where we fit in to their future plans.

Think you're being ultra sensitive Typical. Don't think that the comments are homophobic, more that most people are comfortable with their sexuality without having to broadcast publicly their pride in it. Most citizens struggle to understand how local and government resources can easily be diverted to events of this type when essential services are so often lacking.
