POLICE are calling on residents in Worcester - and across the world - to "unite" against child sexual exploitation (CSE).

Child Sexual Exploitation National Awareness Day takes place tomorrow (Friday), with campaigners encouraging people to spot and speak out against abuse.

A two-hour CSE awareness session will be held by Worcester Early Help at the Perdiswell Young People Club from 1.15pm to 3.15pm tomorrow.

And the Stop CSE group is urging people to write pledges on their hands and tweet it using the hashtag #HelpingHands to show support for its campaign.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Children are especially vulnerable and in a modern society they are forever exposed to all kinds of media contact, from television to the world web.

"Here and through mobile phones they have access to chat rooms as well as interactive social media sites. With this exposure comes the risk from a small minority who will exploit their vulnerability for their own personal satisfaction or to sell this on as a product to others who are happy to satisfy their deprived hunger for a small cost."

The force has also urged parents and residents to be aware of the signs that a child might be being exploited.
