A primary school has received a glowing report from an education watchdog.

Inspectors found Upton Snodsbury CE First School was outstanding in all areas after an Ofsted inspection.

Academic standards were described as high and the children's attitudes to learning was superb and their behaviour excellent.

The inspector found pupils succeeded at the school because teaching was highly effective with the pupils’ individual needs and capabilities known in detail.

Teamwork across the school was described as superb, allowing pupils to make excellent progress and reach well above average standards in reading, writing and mathematics, a situation that has been maintained year on year since 2012.

In the report, Inspector Martin Pye wrote: "By the time pupils leave the school at the end of Year 4, they have made remarkable progress, both academically and socially."

He added: "This is a school where individual needs are known, talents are nurtured and each pupil’s voice is heard."

Personal development, behaviour and welfare at the school was graded outstanding.

Pupils were said to be confident at school, looked smart, arrived on time and were keen to learn.

The youngsters' behaviour was outstanding and children were polite and well mannered with high levels of independence as well as being keen to take on responsibilities.

Bullying of any sort was said "not to happen" at the school.

Headteacher Lorraine Barber was described as providing superb leadership which was a key factor in the school's success.

The inspector found she had driven the school onwards and upwards, supporting, encouraging and challenging both staff and pupils.

Staffing changes had been managed effectively specific funds put to excellent use.

Learning was enriched by visits or special events and outdoor learning was a regular part of school life.

Governors were also praised and the early years provision was also described as outstanding.

Lorraine Barber said: "I am delighted with our report and very proud of the children who shared their achievements and their excitement for learning so enthusiastically with our Inspector.”
