WORCESTER Cathedral has unveiled a new Easter garden as it prepares for live broadcasts from BBC radio this weekend.

The cathedral's central steps have been transformed by the garden, which features the empty tomb of Jesus, especially made by the cathedral carpenter.

The tombstone has been handcrafted by the cathedral stonemasons, all decorated by the gardener and flower ladies.

The garden can be viewed throughout the Easter weekend, for free.

The cathedral will also be welcoming BBC radio on Easter Sunday.

A live broadcast of the Easter Eucharist service will take place at 8.10am on BBC Radio 4, while a performance of Choral Evensong will take place at 3pm on BBC Radio 3.

At the morning service, the Right Reverend Dr John Inge, Bishop of Worcester, will preside, and the Dean of Worcester, the Very Reverend Dr Peter Atkinson, will preach.

The girl choristers and men of the cathedral choir will sing music by Haydn and Willcocks.

The service is open to all, though the BBC ask everyone to be seated in the cathedral by 7.55am.

At the afternoon service, the boy choristers and men of the cathedral choir will sing music by Stanford and Elgar, with an address from the Canon Precentor.

It is again open to all, who will need to be seated by 2.45pm.

At both services, the cathedral choir will be conducted by the director of music, Dr Peter Nardone, with the organ played by the assistant director of music, Christopher Allsop.

Reverend Canon Dr Michael Brierley, Canon Precentor, said: "We have a feast for the eyes and a feast for the ears.

"We very much look forward to welcoming you."
