POLICE in Droitwich have said they are "concerned" about children running around the Berry Hill Industrial Estate.

A group of travellers has recently set up an unauthorised camp on grass within the estate, which is home to many businesses including Julie's Cafe and Physique Fitness gym.

It is thought the travellers moved onto the land last week and have since left piles of rubbish in the area.

PC Tony Carter, of Droitwich Safer Neighbourhood Team, said the police did not have the powers to move the travellers on from the Industrial Estate.

He said: "We are obviously paying attention and dealing with any problems that arise from there.

"We are also in talks with Highways about the concerns raised by the businesses about children running about on the estate.

"It is a busy site - there is lorries steaming up there night and day. We are concerned for the children."

Neither Wychavon District Council or Worcestershire County Council owns the land which the travellers are parked on.

A spokesperson for the County Council said: "We are aware of the unauthorised traveller encampment on Berry Hill Industrial Estate.

"In accordance with our policies, a council officer has visited the site and carried out the necessary welfare checks, risk assessments and highways inspections and we are satisfied with the results of these."
