A WORCESTER based charity needs support from the public to continue its vital lunch clubs for older people in the city.

Worcester Community Trust runs snack and chat lunch clubs for older people in the city.

The clubs provide a healthy two course lunch, often for people unable to cook for themselves, and an opportunity for those who are lonely and isolated to come together and make new friends.

The trust also runs social activities including arts and crafts, bingo and quizzes, as well as seated exercise class.

The two lunch clubs run each month in six community centres around the city, as well as two sessions a month in sheltered housing schemes.

But Helen Scarrett, chief executive officer, said the projects can only continue to be run if donations and charitable funding is found for them.

"We would like 20 local companies to support us with a bursary of £2,000 each which will run our lunch clubs for a year," she said.
