A DANCE teacher has raised more than £1,000 for a cancer charity, which is close to her heart.

Amy Roberts, owner of Worcester School of Dance, staged her first charity showcase to raise funds for Cancer Research UK after finding out one of her dancer’s father had been diagnosed with the disease.

Miss Roberts, aged 20, said: “At the beginning of the year, one of my dancers found out that her dad had been diagnosed with cancer.

“I have a very strong bond with my students and I had to do something to help.

“I decided there’s no better way for us to raise money than to put on a show.

“We can raise as much as we can for the wonderful charity, the kids can showcase their talent and their families can once again beam with pride for what their kids are achieving.”

The showcase was held at Tudor Grange Academy on Saturday April 2 and raised £1,630.

Two shows were held, one for the public and one for the family, with more than 300 people attending.

Miss Roberts said: “It was a fantastic day, it couldn’t have gone any better.

“I can confidently say that after the comments I received after both shows, I succeeded and so did my stars.”

“The children showed so much passion and character, they danced all day and had so much fun.

She is considering holding a show annually to raise money for different charities within Worcestershire.
