AROUND 20 jobs will be created once the transformation of a much loved Malvern bar into a restaurant has been completed.

We revealed earlier this week that Olivers had closed its doors for the final time, prompting many readers to share their memories of the popular bar- even including marriage proposals.

But as work gets underway, and the news sinks in, it has been confirmed that it is a family from the town who have taken on the new venture.

Although wishing to remain anonymous at this stage, a spokesman for the family said: "Social media has gone slightly crazy with this news.

"It's great to see so many memories that people have of Olivers.

"It is a local family who have gone into business with a friend, who are behind the new restaurant.

“We are all very excited about this new venture in our lives.

"The recruitment process will start in the next few weeks."

It has not been confirmed yet what type of food the restaurant will be serving, or what the name will change to.

It is currently called 36 Belle Vue Terrace- the address of Olivers.

It is believed it will be opening in the summer.

The last pint was pulled at Olivers, affectionately known as Ollie's to most in the town, last weekend after more than 20 years of service.

It was formerly known as Monroe's, and before that was called Edward G's.

In its heyday it would see hundreds upon hundreds of people packing out every square inch of it on Friday and Saturday nights, and was widely seen as the best place to be.

Olivers confirmed the news itself, by posting a statement on its website and Facebook page.

It reads: "Olivers has closed for good.

"A new company has taken the premises over and will be reopening in the summer."

Many Gazette readers have shared their thoughts and memories of the "best" pub in town.

Teresa Dorr said: "Oh my God.

"First date night there with the husband, 19 years ago."

Steven James: "With Sarah Julie Mason, we had amazing memories there that I will treasure always."

Matty Barrett said: "What? Best pub in town."

Nicole Cokayne said: "So many more. I can't believe how sad I feel. Great bar and a great many more memories."

One punter, and local musician Ruben Seabright, even proposed to his fiancée at Olivers after performing with his band on a New Year's Eve celebration night.

He said: "Very sad to hear that Ollie's has shut. Countless good memories there. Made a huge number of friends.

"Superbowl every February, playing New Year's Eve with my band and my wife agreed to marry me there."

Jennifer Dodd said: "I'm so shocked. I thought Ollie's would last forever. So many memories. My other half and I met in Ollie's over eight years ago."

The owner of Olivers was unavailable for comment.
