POLICE say they have tracked down the mystery archer of St John's.

We reported this week how 73-year-old Anita Griffiths was sitting at home in Penhill Crescent when an arrow smashed a window in her conservatory.

Police investigating have now told the Worcester News that the shot was a "misfire" from a neighbour with an archery range in their garden.

But it seems that was not the first time that arrows have gone astray in the neighbourhood.

Now St John's couple Jeff and Bernadette Orr, of Georgina Avenue, say they found a huge, "professional" looking arrow standing upright in their garden when they got up one morning several weeks ago.

Mr Orr, said: "I found it in the garden when I woke up in the morning. I couldn't believe it, it's such a strange thing to have happen.

"I put it away in the shed and decided to hold onto it until the owner came to get it back- that way I could tell them to be more careful.

"It looked like a professional arrow, so I presume whoever's doing it knows how to shoot arrows properly.

"It looks like the other arrow that hit the other house recently, so it's probably the same person.

"It's very dangerous. We have our grandson visit us, and when he does, he plays in the garden. What would have happened if he was in the garden when it landed?

"The way it's come down and landed nose first, it must have been shot into the sky.

"It's so dangerous and a silly thing to do. Thankfully it didn’t damage our property or harm anyone.”

Officers investigating the Penhill Crescent incident say they believe they have found the errant archer responsible on that occasion, describing the shot that shattered Mrs Griffiths' window as "a misfire".

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Officers from St Johns and Bedwardine Safer Neighbourhood Team conducted house-to-house enquiries after damage was caused to a window at a property on Penhill Crescent, Worcester.

"The damage was believed to have been caused by an arrow from a bow, the owner of which has since been found.

"A neighbour with an archery range in his garden had a misfire that hit a tree and was deflected outside the boundary of his garden."

"It was an accident and he has offered to compensate the victim. This is now a civil matter."

It is understood the damage totalled around £400.
