FILM students from the University of Worcester are taking part in a national competition launched by carbon monoxide (CO) awareness campaign, Project SHOUT to help raise awareness of the deadly gas.

Known as the silent killer, carbon monoxide takes the lives of around fifty people in the UK every year, when it leaks from boilers, cookers, fires and other appliances that burn fuels such as gas and coal.

Project SHOUT was launched in September 2015 to help raise awareness of the dangers of CO and is now enlisting the help of university film students across the country to create an informative, short film that will educate families on the dangers of CO poisoning and how they can protect themselves with a simple and affordable CO alarm.

Students will have the chance to win £2,500, and the shortlisted films will be premiered at an exclusive private screening in London.

Two national winners will also receive £500 to be spent on production equipment and regional finalists will receive £50 each.

Reuben Irving, film group leader at University of Worcester said: “It’s always good when students have the opportunity to apply creative skills in a commercial context and especially when there is an open creative brief and significant prize.”

Competition entries close at midnight on May 4 2016.
